An excellent choice for beads are Jesse James Strands (on sale!). Two strands (with a few filler beads in some cases) makes one star.
DESIGN NOTE: If you want very little wire to show at the join of the 6 arms use as small a bead as you can thread. Most 3mm bicones work, for example. 15/0 are too small. You can also wrap Griffin Silk tightly for at the centre for a few turns and glue to take up a bit of space. Then add your larger size beads.Ā
